Transferring a domain in

Auth codes, TTLs, and what happens to your DNS during the transfer.

Transferring a domain into Vintony takes 5–7 days end-to-end, governed by ICANN policy. Here's the actual sequence.

At your current registrar, unlock the domain and request the auth code (sometimes called EPP code). Most registrars will email it; some require you to confirm via a separate verification email.

At Vintony, go to Domains → Transfer in, enter the domain, paste the auth code, and pay the transfer fee (which is just one year's renewal at our at-cost price — there's no Vintony transfer markup).

We initiate the transfer at the registry. The current registrar has 5 days to either approve or reject (most auto-approve); if they don't respond, the registry approves by default on day 5.

DNS is unaffected during transfer if you keep using the same nameservers. If you want to move DNS hosting to us, switch the nameservers at the old registrar before transfer; the new records are visible to Vintony's nameservers immediately. The transfer itself doesn't change DNS resolution.
